Comic #131: Symbolic Imagery
Monday, September 21st, 2009This is a bit of a filler comic, as it’s not really a part of any overall story arc. I did this for one of my first assignments of the Fall 2009 quarter at SCAD, and I thought it would make a good enough update on its own. The assignment was based around analyzing our own work and presenting it as a self-aware reconstruction of our style.
I totally used it as an excuse to draw more nature scenes, since that’s one of the things I enjoy most of all. And now you all can see my thought process in why I include the woods as often as I do. Hehe!
For those still interested in the voice acting roles, I am still accepting open auditions for most of the parts. Once I put together the page for the project on this site, I will be announcing the individuals who I’ve chosen to cast as the characters. Until that happens, you can consider the roles to be open to anyone who is interested, so there is no set time limit on your participation. I’ve had many people ask me if it was “too late to audition,” so I just wanted to put it on the table now: until you see someone else’s name as the character’s voice, you’re entirely welcome to send in a sample!
The next official story arc will start with the next page, so stay tuned for that update coming up next week.

HAHA, yeah. You can definitely blame Whitney’s younger cousin Kat for instilling that word into my vocabulary.

I’ll side with Peter on this one. Seth isn’t stating the imagery, he is IMPOSING the imagery of a simple walk in the forest as being something deeper. Heh, he suddenly went “new age” here.
That, or he was trying to psychoanalyze Peter.
“Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”, Seth.

First audition piece done! I decided to use this strip as the basis, since it’s a stand-alone and Seth has a large quantity of conversational, train-of-thought dialogue that’s good for illustating a ‘natural’ speaking voice, rather than reacting to other characters. (I’ll put together a couple more pieces that demonstrate that aspect, filling in the other parts at the same time.)

…I never think about all of that while I walk in the woods. I’m usually all like “OOH, PRETTY FLOWERS!” An Iggy train of thought, really.
But wonderful Woods-y scenes!

Bit of a story break, but nice insight on Peter/Seth having a personality bounce. :3
