Comic #116: Rules Are Made to be Broken
Monday, January 12th, 2009There’s something about Eddy that the worms just do not like. Perhaps they just have a fear of dogs?
I sincerely apologize about the lateness in getting this comic updated. I realize that it has been a solid two months since the last page was put up (not counting the fan comic). Truth be told I have been in a bit of a slump since the holidays; my mom wound up in the hospital just before Christmas with congestive heart failure. She pulled through just fine — thank God — but the whole episode shook me up so bad that I couldn’t get any sort of focus over the past few weeks whenever I would sit down to draw.
Fortunately, there is some very good news: with my classes kicking in last week, I’ve managed to get my concentration back on track. My main class this time is my third Graduate Studio course, which gives me another 10 weeks to work on my own material (and for a grade, too. Sweet.). I’m going to be seizing the opportunity to make sure this two-month break never happens again. Over the next 10 weeks I will be producing a half-year’s worth of Peter & Company updates (that’s 25 pages if you want to keep count), with plans to keep the steam going long after this class is over. Think of it as a way to build up a better work schedule for producing pages. If I can keep up a diligent effort, I may even be able to start updating more than just once a week. We’ll see what happens.
Also, as a reminder, the Art Contest is still going strong. To those who missed the announcement a couple weeks ago, I decided to extend the deadline to January 20th to give people enough time to finish their submissions. If you wanted to participate but didn’t have time to draw over the holidays, now is a great time to jump on the contest and get your free P&C card.
To those who kept checking the site during my slump (and many of you who spoke with me directly over IM’s about it), thanks for being patient with me. It really feels good to be productive again. I’ll be back next week with another page!
For every $30 that is donated overall, a page will be posted in full color!
Current tally: $15.00 Pages Owed: 0

On a side note, I managed to snag the full kit of Rock Band for the 360 (the original — I’ll get Rock Band 2 a bit later on), so if anyone plays that online feel free to hit me up (gamertag: Fragnabulator).

So sorry to hear about your mom! I know how scary it is when a parent is in the hospital. Glad she’s okay.
I’ve really enjoyed reading your comic, and as a procrastinator extraordinaire, I take no offense at delays between updates. Your work is incredibly funny (my husband and I can still crack each other up with the line ‘I got thkillth’) and the artwork is great. Thanks for all your hard work here!

Oh, and Eddy’s expression in the last panel is just KILLER. Wonderfully done!

Whoa, sorry your mom was so sick. DX but I’m glad she is allright. It’s no wonder you couldn’t get drawing done, so don’t feel bad at all.

I’m sorry to hear about your mom, but I’m glad she pulled through. Don’t worry about the gap, it takes a lot longer for me to give up on a comic I enjoy so much.
Even with the extended contest deadline I don’t think I’ll be able to make a submission. I see one spot this week that might(!) give me some time to draw, but I also haven’t had that spark of inspiration yet that I need to get started.

Jon,
I am extremly sorry to hear about your mom but its good to know that she is on the mend. My heart goes out to you and your family! I know how it is to have your mom in the hospital… and to be worried and shaken up. Keep doing what you need to do, and know that the ones that care about you won’t mind any delay and understand.
Much love to you all,
~Paula
