One More Week

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I’m posting real quick to apologize for the lack of updates recently, and for anyone who found it difficult to view the site for a couple of weeks over the past month. It seemed that since I was running an old version of Wordpress, someone managed to hack in and insert a malware link into the PHP code, which in turn caused my site to get flagged by Google’s sensors and cut my visitors off from viewing ANYthing, even down to the comments pages. Thanks to a regular viewer who clued me in to the problem, I cleaned up the code (thank God for hard backups of PHP scripts) and got the newest version of Wordpress installed. Google then reinstated my site, so everything should be working just fine now. I have to get used to the new look of the updated system for the behind-the-scenes aspect of things — the actual site that is shown online didn’t change at all — but it’s worth it to keep it from happening again.

It’s just going to be one more week to wait for the next page, folks. This is the last week of my summer courses and all of my time has been spent on my projects. There is good news, however! Sometime on Wednesday (or Thursday at the absolute latest), my new site design for The Chronicles of Ademar will be finished and launched. There’s not much to see there just yet at the time of this post, but once it is done, it will house a weekly-updated blog of sketches, paintings and previews for the upcoming book series. I’ve already posted a few of the latest character designs on my DeviantArt/FurAffinity galleries, linked in the right column of this site, so give those a look if you are the impatient type.

In the meantime, I will be back next Monday with your regularly scheduled P&C page updates. I gots me some final projects to finish.

Update 8-28: The Ademar site is finished and is now live! Check it out if you have a moment. I’ll be updating it every week with new content as I start producing the issues.

    YAY!

Gah. I’m typing this as you’re uploading the site (CoA), and it won’t come up, and edward loves you

I visted the Ademar site, it’s really cool! Buckley is my favorite I’m pretty sure, but for some reason I dreamed about Lily a couple days ago–I dreampt that she died! :( I guess your characters live in my brain a lot. ^^

Okay….I am seriously dissapointed. The Ademar characters, while totally original and wrapped in an amazing storyline, have totally lost their original feeling with the new, more realistic makeover. I used to be a big (ish) fan, but I have lost interest with the makeover. What changed, Jon? Why?

  6. Jon Ponikvar Says:

Well, the realistic characters are here to stay, since I think they’re a vast improvement over the cartoony ones of the past. If that’s what keeps you from reading the comic… *shrug* I don’t know what to tell ya. I just hope the “amazing story,” as you put it, is enough to keep your interest for at least the first few issues so you can form an honest, legitimate opinion.

Which also is interesting, considering that I haven’t posted anything on the site specifically about the story yet. Hm.

  7. Origamist101 Says:

    *waves enthusiasm flag*

And FYI, this is a NEW site. There was an OLD site, too.

Maybe “amazing” wasn’t the exact right word, but…….compelling?

  8. Jon Ponikvar Says:

Hey, ya can’t please everyone 100% of the time. Sorry the art style doesn’t thrill you, but the vast majority of feedback I got from my past test pages was that the cartoony characters conflicted way too much with the violent, serious story. It disconnected more people than it attracted, so it needed the change. You can’t have the cast of Peter & Company killing each other with swords and expect it to go over fine with everyone.

And FYI, I didn’t post any bits of story on ANY of the sites that I’ve posted for Ademar. The only teaser I mentioned in the past was the whole “rejection of technology,” which has also changed a bit in the rewrite. When I relaunched the Ademar site this week it had been almost two years since I had updated with ANY sort of information, so I meant for people to put out of mind everything they had seen to this point. A clean slate, as it were. Otherwise, you would still see all the old stuff up there, wouldn’t you?

I imagine you wouldn’t like someone trying to act like they already know what happens in a story you’re still writing, so don’t try to pull that with me, thanks. Also, there’s no need for the passive-aggressive attitude. All I ask is that until it’s posted on the new site, consider the details you’ve seen up to this point to no longer apply.

  9. Origamist101 Says:

Point? What is this “point” that you speak of? I just missed a Ritalin.

  10. Origamist101 Says:

And my train of thought. Sorry.
    Passive-aggressivity PWNS, by the way.

  11. Origamist102.5 Says:

IT”S 2:30 IN THE MORNING. GIVE ME A BREAK.

  12. Jon Ponikvar Says:

2:30 am? Heck, it’s just a bit after 10:30 pm here.

Wait… I’M TALKING TO THE FUTURE?!?!

  13. Origamist102.5 Says:

Check the comments time, time posted, whatever. What state do you live in?

  14. cathrope Says:

sigh, Origamist, take a chill pill.

While I haven’t seen Ademar yet, I do plan on seeing it as soon as I can, so until then, keep up the good work John.

  15. cathrope Says:

    hehe I mean Jon, sorry

  16. Origamist3.141597 Says:

I refuge to take this omnipotent “chill phill”!

  17. Rachel Says:

Origamist, I must disagree. In my experience, PA destroys, never does anything positive, and is a royal pain. Being honest and polite, I have found, is best. I know you are frustrated with the art style Jon has selected, but maybe we need to just trust him. He holds all the threads of the story in his hand, has done much pondering, and in the end I’m sure he’ll make the best choice he can.

And, we all know Jon will admit a mistake when he believes he’s made one. He will never let one of his great projects be crippled because pride holds him back from changing it. So we don’t have to worry.

I’m sure of it, Jon! ^^

    ~Rachel

  18. Origamist3.141597 Says:

Being honest and polite? On the INTERNET? What country/world/dimension are you from?
JK. I really am not a realistic person, both on artistic talent and personality, so I don’t HATE it, it’s just different, and with a lot of positivity on Jons’ side, I think I can adapt when the story actually runs through.
And you’re absolutely right. Penny Arcade is an abhorable handicap to humankind. :-)

  19. Rachel Says:

I meant “Passive Agressive,” but somehow I think you knew that. You’re a bit of a clown, aren’t you? :) I mean that in a positive way.

    ~Rachel

  20. Sharif Says:

It’s been so long since I’ve read the old site but the new stuff looks wonderful to me. This looks a little more developed then the old stuff, for obvious reasons. Sorry, Jon, I know you don’t want people to compare the old thing to what it is today but that’s what you get for showing us a sneak peak.

  21. Origamist26 and a half... Says:

I be a clown. An EVIL clown!
    Muahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I just failed Freebird in Guitar Hero.

  22. Jon Ponikvar Says:

Oh no, by all means compare the old stuff to the new stuff. There are obvious big differences between them in style and all that. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t expect the old stuff to be included in the new stuff until you see it either on the site or in the comic itself. :)

  23. OrigamistPHI Says:

How did you get “included” to be bold?

  24. Jon Ponikvar Says:

    It’s maaaaAAAAAAAaaaagic…

  25. OrigamistPI? Says:

I hate your keyboard, except for the fact that you type on it.
