Finals Delay Notice (Updated 3-31)

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Gonna have to hold off on updates for the next week or two, folks. Sorry about this. I have finals due and with my health being what it is, I’m going to have to put any work on the next P&C comic on hold until March 13th (my last day of class for winter quarter). Expect the next page to be posted on March 17th, the following Monday.

Additionally, I thought I would announce my plans for the upcoming quarter. Starting March 24th I’ll be taking my first Graduate Studio class, which will consist of 10 weeks of nothing but my own personal comic projects. I will be bringing Peter and Company with me and producing not only 10 straight weeks’ worth of regular updates (which means there will be no more of these “delay notices” for quite some time), but finishing all of the colored pages for the collection book AND the exclusive 10-page comic that will be printed in the book. This will put me directly on track for a June 2008 release date for the first P&C Collection, including 110 total strips, concept artwork, sketches, and maybe a few other surprises if I can make room for them.

While you’re waiting for P&C to update again, don’t forget that I have been regularly updating my Sketch/Portfolio Blog with all of my class projects as they are completed. I’ll be adding some new sketches and artwork from Ademar there in the next few days as well, so keep an eye out for that, too.

Update 3-16: Things kind of went bad with my health a few days after my last post, and I ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis. I’m fine now, but considering I only just got back home yesterday, I’m still getting my strength back up. I’ll be posting a new comic soon, but it probably won’t be for another few weeks. Thank you all for having patience with me… I’ll keep you all informed when I’m feeling back up to speed.

Update 3-31: Wow, an entire month without updates. I’m sorry to everyone who has been worried about my health! It’s really been a slow recovery, unfortunately. I’m still feeling residual pain (which sucks), and with my new classes already in session, all my free time is spent on my final projects from LAST quarter, since I had to apply for a temporary grade of Incomplete when I ended up in the hospital during finals week. One of my classes this quarter is Graduate Studio, though, and I am bringing the Peter & Company book in to finish it off, which means I now have an official date for when the book will be completed and ready to print: May 22nd!! Also, part of my self-appointed assignment for the studio class is to produce 10 weeks of regular P&C online updates before anything else, so you WILL see new material from me on here very soon. Count on it for next week, I promise. I should be back on track by then.

Current Tally: $5.00 Pages Owed: 0
$30.00 = One page in full color!

I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait. You have a life too, we all get busy at times. I would like to order a copy of the P&C Collection, but as of right now, I have no money. Hope all goes well for your finals, so until next time. =)

  5. Jon Ponikvar Says:

    Hi Rachel,

Yes, I’m ok, for the most part. I’ll save you the details, but the short version is that I’m dealing with my Crohn’s and a potential relapse of pancreatitis, and the meds they put me on make it difficult for me to draw — which is particularly stressful since I have finals coming up next week.

All in all I should be fine, but I’m going to be SO GLAD when Spring Break hits next Thursday. Especially since I’m not letting myself play any Smash Brothers Brawl until then. HA!

hello Jon, i just wanted to take a moment to express my fondness for your comic. i stumbled on it by accident today while i was home sick from school. theres some kind of bug going around evidently. but, i just wanted to let you know that you now have one more devoted reader. there was only one thing i was disappointed about in your comics… you didnt have much more then a hundred of them! i was getting so caught up in it that when i reached the end, i actually got mad at my laptop, lol. anyway, congratulations on an overdue “job well done”. i wish i had found this earlier. and regarding your taking time of for school, i completely understand, im also in the middle of testing and im starting to get tired of it, i think its starting to make me more sick then i already am. just dont take to long in bringing out a new strip.

  9. gforce Says:

Pancreatitis? Man, that sucks… :( Don’t worry about us, take your time in getting up to speed health-wise. Hope you’re feeling 100% better very soon!

  10. Jennifer Says:

I second with gforce. I’m sorry to hear about your illness, and hope that you get completely better and back to your old self. Take your time, get plenty of rest, and drink chicken noodle soup for the heck of it! =)

  11. Origamist101 Says:

    What’s a pancreatis?

    Git butter suun!

  12. Maverick Says:

It’s been a while since Jon’s last post. I can’t help but begin to worry a little. I hope it’s nothing too serious, honestly I don’t know how long it takes to recover from pancreatis (I KNOW that isn’t spelled right!). Some word would be nice to assuage any doubts about your condition. Take as long as you need for the new comic. Until it is posted I will be anxiously awaiting news.

  13. Jon Ponikvar Says:

Thanks for your concern, guys. I posted a quick update to let you all know where I stand with my health and a bit on the next update.

Also, to answer your question, Origamist: the pancreas is the part of your digestive system that produces enzymes necessary for digestion and processing of food. It’s possible for the pancreas to go into overdrive and make too much — usually as a result from eating too much in one sitting, or any number of other possible causes, including stress and diet. When this happens, the pancreas actually starts to digest itself. It is common for the condition to walk hand-in-hand with Crohn’s (which I have been fighting for the past six years). It’s just as painful as it sounds and it takes a bit of time to recover from it.

  14. Chris Says:

Hope you feel better soon Jon, and I think I speak for most people here when I say we don’t care how long the comic goes without updates, so long as the creator of one our fav online comics is in good health, take all the time the you need.

  15. Jennifer Says:

Here, here! My prayers are with you, as always. =)

  16. Origamist101 Says:

long ime no comment. hows stuuuf, jon?

  17. Maverick Says:

Alright, what’s going on here? If it’s going to be longer for new comics, that’s fine, just drop us a line and tell us what’s up. Seriously, as long as it takes for a new comic, we will all be waiting. A little sign of things to come would be appreciated.

  18. adam Says:

    i hope his illness didn’t flare up again…. :-(

  19. Ben Says:

    Now I’m worried :°/

Will there be enough weeks to do the 10 updates needed for the assignement?
