Comic #101: Of Cats and Crushes

Monday, January 14th, 2008

The holidays are over, my first classes are in full swing, and I’m back with fresh material and a new storyline to kick off the new year. Life is good.

So yes, this story is introducing a new character to the cast. Details on who she is and what role she’ll play will be better detailed in subsequent pages, but I will say that Peter’s initial reaction is a perfect reflection of how I used to react to a pretty face at that age. Rather than having any sense of bravery or courage to actually talk to the girl, I would instead opt to act like she was trying to shoot me and run like crazy in the opposite direction.

This habit eventually faded around high school or so, but for a good chunk of my childhood my lack of courage in the face of beauty really made it hard to talk to girls that I liked.

Also, Chelsea’s back yard in these panels is identical to that of the actual girl’s whom I used as the basis for Chelsea’s character. Her family had a trampoline on a raised deck just above a small creek/ravine running through their back yard. It was the most dangerous placement I’d ever seen for a trampoline, but for some reason the neighborhood kids would flock to it. Crazy kids.

LOL!! Oh, Jon this one made me goooof so hard! I absolutely love the expressions you used with Peter and Iggy and the backgrounds are soooooo good. Especially in panel 4 where you show the deck it has such DEPTH! I can’t wait to read the next one…poor Peter.

Alright! A new comic! I just sent a $15 donation to round it up to the full $30, so I can’t wait to see Peter’s new crush in full color! Great comic; keep up the good work!

Awesome, thanks for the donation, Kevin! The next page will be posted next week in full color, per your request.

  6. Tom Says:

I’m interested in who Peter and Iggy were talking about. Does Iggy have a crush?

  7. Mike Says:

Increased danger = increased fun. I would have flocked to said trampoline in my youth as well. :)

  8. DarkWolf Says:

A new character, only one?!? you should totally introduce Peter’s way cool big brother. You could have him show up on his custom orange motorcycle. I don’t know how he could be a wolf (just like his ink) but he should be…

  9. Jon Ponikvar Says:

A brother?? Who in the world would want a brother?? They stink and hog all the video game systems. ;)
