Comic #98: An Explanation With a Lisp

Monday, November 26th, 2007

An evening update today, but still technically on time. I’ve been spending the past few hours wrestling with my web server. Apparently they’ve been having connection issues and decided not to let me upload a single bit of data to my webspace. Curse you, web servers!!

So yes, I always say it’s a bit tricky to write Skin’s dialogue and still have it come off as readable. Certain things are easier to say out loud than to put into written word. Something as innocent as “sit down” can easily be misread as something entirely different (and inappropriate), so thus is the peril of a written lisp.

Also, as promised, I’m changing gears a bit with this page to make things a little more lighthearted. We’ve been through the heavy parts of the story already. Enough of that. Make with the funny!

YAY!!!!! You’re back! But yeah, it’s good to be reading a new strip now. I’d check to see if there was an update, and every time, I saw that cute little 4 year old Steven. Now I see Peter freaked out. =)

  2. Tom Says:

This one is full of yay. I’m glad Skin was the one to find Peter and not Seth. He would have been ticked. I do have to say that lisp is probably the cruelest word in the English language. Imagine, “I have a lithp.”

  3. Sharif Says:

I’m pretty sure I know what Peter though the snake said. Pretty hilarious and dirty! However that might just be me.

    “YAY!!!!! You’re back!”
“This one is full of yay.”

All of the above is truth. :P

Yay, comics have returned! I’ve been checking every couple of days for any updates, heh. :)

I just hope the guardians remember that they are not solely responsible for a person’s life, especially after they’ve left. I know what it means to care so much about someone that anything negative from them is like a deep wound to me. It’s hard to see someone close to you go down a bad road, or see them in pain. Unfortunately, that’s life… in a universe with death.

  7. Nona Says:

Finally you’re back! I’ve waiting for weeks for this and you delivered a great one as usual. I’m kinda glad it’s going back to funny. serious is good but it’s the comedy that makes the characters shine and me laugh uncontrollably!

Lisps, accents and other speech impediments are a wonderful thing to read. I just started reading Mossflower, my first Redwall book in a while; I’d forgotten how much I loved Molespeak. Thkin’s Lithp ith jutht ath fun :D
