Strip #35

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

This one was in my head for a couple days, but it took some refining to get it working on paper. I had about four different songs running through my head that could go for the last two panels, but I tried to be cautious while in the church setting. I don’t want to offend anyone, y’know? The sign in front of the church in the opening panel reads (although blocked by word bubbles) “Today’s sermon: Wandering for 40 days in the desert and how it affects your ability to drive.”

First, I enjoyed this whole strip, and have been enjoying Peter & Company since someone in the chat group for Gen Whitmore’s LiveStream told us about your strip and Gen OK’d a link.

I’m a Christian (as are Gen and her husband), and I’ve been bored in church before (when I wasn’t just depressed). I know I’m at least a bit unusual, but for what it’s worth, I really don’t mind this. I think you chose well, having the worms (already established as trouble-makers) do the prank.

Over the years before I decided I can trust God, I experienced a lot of earnest “witnessing” that was done out of caring, but was still rather ineffective. I’ve decided that with all the other approaches around, I’ll try humor. So because I know deserts are surprisingly cold at night, and the word is that Jesus had to leave behind his sheet, Easter morning, when he steps out into the chilly, predawn of Jerusalem, his line is “This is the last time I get buried in my underwear.”

So no, you didn’t offend me, and I expect you made church a bit more bearable for some people who really needed the help. :D
